Communion Practices
Communion is practiced weekly at all of the Traditional and Celebration services at Holy Shepherd. Our communion practices are as follows: The Lutheran Church teaches that Christ's body and blood are truly present in, with, and under the bread and wine in the Sacrament. All who are baptized and share this understanding are welcome to commune. Children begin communing when they are in the 5th grade and after they have been instructed in the meaning of the Sacrament. Younger children come forward and receive a blessing from the Pastor. The lighter liquid in some of the glasses is dealcoholized wine. The darker liquid in some of the glasses and in the chalice is regular wine. Empty glasses should be placed in the baskets at the sides of the sanctuary.
